What is it and what is the cause?
We constantly make facial expressions such as frowning and smiling, which cause certain muscles to move and create lines. These lines naturally disappear when we stop making that expression.
However, as we start to get older our skin is less elastic and becomes thinner and after many years of creating these lines when we make facial expressions, they start to become permanent even when we are not making the movement. When we smile, it causes “crows feet” which start to become more noticeable in our 30’s and 40’s. Smoking and sun damage may increase the severity of them.
Treatments
By far the most effective treatment for Crows Feet is Botox. This blocks the chemical message to the muscle which causes it to move hence preventing the lines being made and deepening over time. Certain eye creams can help restore collagen to the skin and soften the lines but if you continue to make the movement when you smile, the lines will continue to become deeper over time.
Cost: £200 for both eyes to be treated (£50 Male supplement applies).
Very fine fillers can be used if the lines are very established and costs £275 per syringe.
Chemical peels such as TCA can help soften the lines by removing damaged skin leaving fresher, younger skin on the surface but do not stop the lines being made. Costs £120 per TCA peel.
